Footy Education Fever Hits Mortgage Choice
Mortgage Choice is excited and proud to broadcast it is the main sponsor of the inaugural ‘Mortgage Choice / Imminent Wealth Academy Entrepreneurial Player of the Year Award 2008’ supported by the RLPA.
The award aims to reward current National Rugby League (NRL) players who have an existing business or a great business idea that needs to be recognised. They will receive a grant worth over $30k that provides mentoring, marketing, cash and share management accounts, financial planning, accounting and much more.
Managing Director Paul Lahiff said, “We recognise the need for NRL players to educate themselves for a satisfying and successful career after sport, as Paul Gallen – Cronulla Sharks captain - is doing as a Mortgage Choice franchise owner with business partner and ex footballer Matthew McPherson”.
“It is an honour for us to contribute to furthering the concept of sportspeople transitioning to a business career via this important and necessary award”.
Imminent Wealth Academy and the Rugby League Players Association (RLPA) formulated the idea over recent months because they recognised the need for NRL players to receive greater encouragement in building successful careers after sport.
Steve ‘Beaver’ Menzies, a Manly-Warringah Sea Eagles legend and a director of Imminent Wealth Academy, said many footballers are unaware of how they can utilise their elite athlete skills and traits to develop a successful business career.
Having represented NSW in State of Origin, as well as Australia and proven himself at the highest level of football, Steve learnt that his football success and greatness came through the team he could develop around him.
“At an elite level of sport, you are very focused on a desired outcome and must rely on each individual doing their job. By all individuals working together and believing in each other we have the synergy of a team,” he said.
“The entrepreneurial award is an example of RLPA, Imminent Wealth Academy and Mortgage Choice coming together as a team to benefit and support our current and future sports people in their transition into business”.
