Sydney has shown its support for the Ronald McDonald House in Westmead, raising more than $10 million for the construction of a new House.

On Saturday, Channel Seven Sydney in partnership with Ronald McDonald House in Westmead hosted a telethon to raise much needed funds for the construction of a new House.

The existing House has 18 rooms and accommodates roughly 500 families each year. Due to severe lack of capacity, the House had to turn away 400 families with sick children last year.

The funds raised will help Ronald McDonald House Charities to build a new home that has 60 rooms and can accommodate 1,360 families a year.

Celebrities and businesses from across the country joined hands to raise money for this very worthwhile cause.

Mortgage Choice chief executive officer John Flavell was on hand on Saturday at the House in Westmead to donate $20,000 on behalf of the network.

“Mortgage Choice has long been a long supporter of Ronald McDonald House Charities and the work they do,” he said.

“We have been involved with the company since 2011, and in that time we have managed to raise approximately $500,000 for the charity through various state-based and national fundraising activities.”

In addition to the $20,000 donation, Mortgage Choice staff and franchisees were on hand at the House on Saturday to host a BBQ for the children and their families staying at Ronald McDonald House in Westmead.

“It was a pleasure to not only donate $20,000 to the fundraising event, but work with Mortgage Choice staff and franchisees to cook a BBQ for the families and staff staying and working at Ronald McDonald House in Westmead,” Mr Flavell said.

“I just want to say a big thank you to all who attended and took part in such a worthwhile cause.”
