Cooking for a cause

What a humbling experience it was for Steve, myself and our son to spend some time at The Ronald McDonald house in Subiaco.  We joined forces with another four franchisee’s and our state office staff to work our magic in the kitchen. We planned a nutritious meal and catered for over 60 very brave and inspirational patients and their parents at the house.

This home away from home, has been accommodation for more than 3500 rural families needing specialised medical care for their seriously ill children since 1990. After speaking with some of the families, it became clear that treatment can take weeks, months or even years.  One mum in particular, had been there for over 400 days and she was heading back to their home the next morning, hundreds of kilometres away.

What struck me most, was how supportive everyone was of each other.  The families must be under enormous stress, but they still managed to keep smiling and were most appreciative.  It was a real honour to be able to help out in a very small way and lots of fun too.

Mortgage Choice’s mascot, Choosey, was happy to be on hand to entertain the kids and keep them all smiling. Hopefully, they’ll have a quick recovery and be able to return to their own homes very soon.
