The award is an important accolade for Darren, who has been with Mortgage Choice since 2007. He started out with the Arundel franchise, and in 2016 added Mortgage Choice Pacific Fair to his growing business interests.
With a background in finance, Darren had the skills to enjoy success as a broker. Even so, he did plenty of research before deciding on a Mortgage Choice franchise, recognising the value of the nationally recognised brand.
However, it’s Darren’s passion for helping people that has always driven his business, and within just 12 months of joining Mortgage Choice, Darren’s wife Tanya decided to leave her job to assist him with the business.
Achieving growth
Like a lot of successful business owners Darren has invested time nurturing professional relationships, particularly among real estate agents, to build his referral base.
“You need to ensure you get out there and build your network”, says Darren. “Maintaining your network and growing it is key, as well as putting processes in place so that you can work as efficiently as possible.”
In a competitive market, Darren has differentiated his business by consistently delivering great customer service. He says his customers appreciate that he “knows how to get things done and get loans approved”.
Keeping customers informed throughout the loan process – and beyond, is another hallmark of Darren’s business – his customers receive communication from the business at least 15 times per year. As a mark of how impressed Darren’s customers are, up to 40% of his business comes from referrals.
Community involvement matters too. Mortgage Choice Arundel sponsors a number of community groups including Breakers Netball, Southport-Labrador Cricket Club, and Runaway Bay Soccer Club.
Memorable moments
Darren says there are certain things that drive him, including giving his customers the opportunity to build their wealth, and helping them achieve their property and financial goals, and of course, being able to provide for his family.
His career as a mortgage broker has created some memorable moments for Darren. He explains that among the hundreds of people he and his team have helped, several have said that Mortgage Choice Arundel “changed their lives completely by achieving finance for them.” Darren adds, “There are many others, but those stick out as significant.”
