** Getting Your Finances Into Shape

------------------------------------------------------------

A New Year is here and you may have already made a New Year’s resolution to eat healthier and exercise more, so why not resolve to whip your finances into shape as well. A careful budget can go a long way towards helping you reach your financial goals in 2014 and beyond.   Here are five tips to help get your finances in order this year:   Avoid unnecessary extras: Evaluate your regular outgoings and identify any unnecessary costs which you can cut down or cut out.   Budget monthly or in accordance with the length of your pay period. This will allow you to amend your budget quickly if you need to.   Update your savings account: opening a new account with a lending institution that offers lower fees and higher interest rates will allow you to save more in less time.   Make paying off and cancelling your credit card a priority this year: Many people get stuck using a credit card and struggle to break the cycle as interest continues to accrue. Consider using a debit card instead.   Compare your home loan, insurances, utility bills, etc via your mortgage broker or websites such as HelpMeChoose.com.au. You will find the best deal suited to your needs and you could save money in the process.     ** Interest Rates ------------------------------------------------------------ In its first meeting for the year on Tuesday, the Reserve Bank decided to leaves rates on hold at 2.5%. This was unanimously forecast by economists, who said that continued depreciation in the Australian dollar, rising inflation pressures and some broadly positive results for the domestic economy in recent months mean that there is currently no strong argument in favour of reducing rates even further. The RBA last cut the cash rate in August 2013, by a quarter of a percentage point (25 basis points)   Read Bank Governor Glen Stevens’ statement here: (http://www.rba.gov.au/media-releases/2014/mr-14-01.html)
