Earlier this month, the Reserve Bank cut interest rates by a quarter of a percentage point to 2.5 per cent. This takes the cash rate to its lowest level since 1959. The major banks were all quite quick to react with their rate cuts.
Comments from Glen Stevens, Governor of the Reserve Bank, have been widely interpreted by the press as leaving the door open for a potential further rate cut this year.
Either way, borrowers have been benefiting from cash rate cuts (2.25 percentage points down in less than two years).
