Joondalup is a regional metropolitan city, named after Lake Joondalup. It is located approximately 26 kilometres north of the Perth CBD and acts as the primary urban centre in Perth’s outer northern suburbs. The suburb area is roughly 9 square kilometres in size.

The population of Joondalup has demonstrated strong growth, increasing from 8,407 people in 2006 to 9,205 people in 2011. The predominant age group in Joondalup is 15-24 years, with households in the area being primarily couples with children.

Households in Joondalup are likely to be repaying $1800 - $2400 on their mortgage repayments each month. The properties in Joondalup are 54% owner-occupied, down 5.6% since 2006.

Joondalup is a hub that consists of several retail, hospital and educational infrastructure, and is a part of the City of Joondalup council. It is home to Lakeside Joondalup Shopping Centre, Joondalup railway station and Lake Joondalup. It has several tertiary and secondary education institutions and also contains a major public hospital, Joondalup Health Campus.

The suburb area is also home to the Arena Joondalup, which hosts sporting events including WAFL and Rugby, and also lifestyle events including music festivals and expos. Joondalup also has 2 parks that cover approximately 10% of the total area.
