It can sometimes be difficult to get a foothold in the property market and have your loan application approved. There are many options that can be considered that may help you achieve loan approval.

Should I get a guarantor or should I become a guarantor?

A guarantor is a third party to a loan and can help you get a home loan by offering additional security support. If you’re trying to buy a home with less than a 20% deposit, lenders may require you to pay Lender’s Mortgage Insurance otherwise known as LMI, or you will need to ask an immediate family member to go guarantor on your loan.

As a guarantor, you can guarantee as little or as much as required to get the family member’s deposit to the required 20%. Once your loved one has enough equity in their home, you can ask to be released as their guarantor.
